About Us

In May of 1978, six members of the Barron Foursquare Gospel Church convened the first "school board" meeting with prayer.  Without a name or even a cent of funding, these members discussed the possibility and the probabilyt of a Christian Day School.  The first school board members, immersing each meetin gin prayer, met several times throughout 1978 and 1979 to discuss the logistics of such a school, including building codes, insurance, tuition, salaries and teaching philosophies.

After much planning and prayer, Growing Lights Christian Academy opened its doors in September of 1979 to seventeen students.  G.L.C.A. employed one teacher who instructed the students in grade two through twelve in a quasi "one-room schoolhouse" type fashion.

Through the past yeas, the school has grown to an average of sixty students per year.  Today the school employs three full-time teachers.  Growing Lights Christian Academy's teachers are supported by numerous volunteers who teach classes such as Home Economics, Computer and Creative Writing.  Other volunteers help by doing small projects for the teachers.  Most of the volunteers are parents of current or former students.

Our present school board continues to pray for each student by name, as well as the teachers.  Building codes, tuitions and salaries are still part of many discussions, and the possibilities for the current Christian Day School contine to emerge.  Growing Lights Christian Academy has grown from its beginnings in 1978 to a well-rounded school where students are encouraged to shine forth the light of life while becoming productive and responsible citizens.
